TLC credentials expire every 48 months...if you took a TLC course in 2020 or earlier, there is a good chance that yours has expired. To help your unit maintain regulatory compliance and further your understanding of the Cadet Program, please consider joining us for some great class sessions and lots of constructive interactive dialog about the Cadet Program. If you are new to supporting the Cadet Program at your squadron here are the key objectives for the Basic course:

Learning Goals:

  1. Articulate the Cadet Programs vision, to include referencing the key traits of cadet life, the program elements and the outcomes each produces, and an explanation of the promotion process.

  2. Explain the roles and responsibilities of cadet programs officers serving at the squadron level, with special regard to leadership dynamics, as the adult’s role changes when the cadet staff’s readiness changes.

  3. Describe operating principles for squadron-level cadet programs, including Cadet Great Start, weekly meetings and activities, and using the Quality Cadet Unit Award as a self-assessment and managerial tool.

If you have already completed the Basic course, join us on Sunday for the Intermediate course with a focus on these key objectives:

      Learning Goals:

  1. Discuss how local leaders might serve cadets with special needs.

  2. Describe methods for positive, indirect leadership.

  3. Describe major national and wing activity programs.

If you are Senior or Master rated in Cadet Programs and would like to be considered as a course instructor, please watch for and respond to the Call for Instructors email coming out soon or email me directly.

Mark your calendars for June 8 and/or 9 and join other squadron Cadet Program Officers from all across Group 2 for one or both of these TLC sessions. Class size will be limited to 20 students in each course and we will accept participant registration via email starting May 11th. More details will follow, watch for the registration email. Further details about these courses, including web-based pre-requisites, can be found here:https://www.gocivilairpatrol.com/programs/cadets/cpofficer/tlc

Hello CAP Group 2 members!

This father's day - Sunday June 16th - will be an CAP Group 2 Aerospace Education Day held at the Oakland International Airport!  This special activity will include the Open Cockpit Event at the Oakland Aviation Museum with a number of CAP volunteers acting as museum docents, featuring hamburgers and soft drinks, orientation rides for cadets in our group 2 CAP corporate aircraft and possibly one or two tours of FAA air traffic control facilities at or near the airport for cadets and seniors alike! I will have a CAP eight passenger van to help members get between the musem, the O-rides and the ATC facilites.

Oakland Aviation Museum Father's Day Open Cockpit event:

https://www.oaklandaviationmuseum.org/open-cockpit-days

This event is being held from 11 AM to 4 PM and is being coordinated by 1Lt Theresa Fontanilla. If you are a cadet or SM who would like to volunteer to help out during this event, please email her at teresa.fontanilla@cawgcap.org .  If you just want to come and tour the museum, there is no need to sign up!  Just come and enjoy the event!

Cadet uniform is ABUs or BDUs.  SM uniform is the corporate blue polo with gray slacks. Parents (especially fathers!) and other family members of cadets are most welcome to join in on the fun at this event. Unaccompanied cadets must bring a completed and signed parental permission slip with them.

Group 2 Orientation rides:

Bay Area Group 2 Cadets...  Do you want to go flying in a Civil Air Patrol corporate Cessna airplane for a free orientation flight on Sunday June 16th at the Oakland airport?

We plan to have two, perhaps even three CAP corporate aircraft ready to fly out of the Oakland Airport this same day!  In order to fly you must meet the following requirements:

  1. You must be able to commit to flying for the seat time you will be assigned to. Most likely, the flights will take place between the hours of 9 AM and 5 PM.  You will be paired with a pilot and one other cadet.  Each ride typically lasts about two hours, including the preflight instruction. Priority will be given to those cadets who have not flown yet.

  2. We hope for good flying weather, but weather delays or cancellations can occur. Safety is always our top priority.

  3. Each cadet will have time at the controls and time in the back seat as well.

  4. The flights will be from the Oakland Internation Airport at the Kaiser Air operations building (8735 Earhart Rd, Oakland, CA 94621). Your parent (or other adult) needs to get you there and be there with you until you take off and after you land (they can go over to Oakland Aviation Museum while you’re in the air, if they like)

  5. You should bring a smart phone to call your parents when you return for your pick up and also to take pictures of your flight to share on social media. If you don't have a smart phone to bring with you, you may ask someone else to make a call for you on their phone.

  6. Uniform is ABUs or BDUs, but if you don’t have it yet, you can wear a black T-Shirt and jeans instead. If you have your ABUs or BDUs but don't have insignia sewn on yet, that is OK too.

  7. You must be younger than 18 and have a valid CAP ID card.

  8. You must complete the online Aircraft Ground Handling Course (AGHC) and complete CAP form 60-80 before four days before your scheduled flight.  I will provide the forms and information to take the AGHC after the ride selection is made.

To sign up for an orientation ride for Sunday June 16th, reply to this email by Sunday, June 2nd. Provide your:

  • Last Name, First Name

  • CAP ID #, Squadron #

  • Phone #, plus an additional non-CAP email address

  • How many CAP Orientation rides you have already flown (Gider and powered)

  • Your fully clothed body weight.

  • Your prefered two hour time period.

Please reply only to me.  Do not use "reply all."

Orientation flights is one of CAP's best programs for cadets who want to fly, so don't miss out.

FAA Air Traffic Control Facilites tours:

I am working on getting two tours of FAA Air Traffic Control Facilites for cadets and senior members alike, that being the Oakland International Airport control tower and also the Oakland Center ATC facility (TRACON).  If I am able to secure tours for that day, I will let you know. In the meantime, please email me if you are interested in attending such a tour. I will keep a posted . Sorry, but these ATC tours will be limited to CAP members only. To sign up for the tentative FAA ATC facility tour, please reply to this email by Sunday, June 2nd. Provide your:

  • Last Name, First Name

  • CAP ID # Squadron #

  • Phone #, plus an additional non-cap email address
